I have a photography project for the Lincoln Christmas market and have to devise a theme. This is ok, I already have some ideas and have developed one today and that is of language. The Lincoln market has been going for quite a long time and has traditional elements as well as stalls promoting other nationalities so I going to look at writing and signs in English and non-English and try to get in the picture the meaning of the words. My ‘mind map’ from today includes styles and clothing as well as an idea about a Christmas language, think Carol Singers here. What other time of year would we see Carol Singers, I think at no other. Also, there is the language of business or rather commerce, since that’s what it’s all about and perhaps I could get some of the stall holders to write their prices in Euro’s, maybe they already will have, as well as ‘old money’ since there will be a traditional element and people dressing in Victorian characters. I’m looking forward to it.
