I had my interview this morning for the photography course/subject. I’m not the superstitious type so when the conductor on the train came over and couldn’t sell me a ticket because he’d ran out of change all I was cornered about was that I would either have to locate a guard at the station and explain what had happened or wait in line to buy a ticket to get off the station. Neither option would be quick and I only had a finite amount of time to be at the building for the interview. I did, however, catch a break after a few minutes of ringing the bell at the station’s internal ticket window when one of the station guards told me that no one would be there and simply let me through the barrier to the freedom of the car park and the street beyond.
The interview was relaxed, we talked about what I could expect from the subject and then I showed some of the work I’ve produced (from this site, or rather, this site) which seemed to go well. After this we talked a little more in general about the subject content and some of the things other students had done previously and I was offered a place there and then. Result. There is one problem though and that is the timetable clashes with the other subjects I’m already down for. Although photography is part of the course I’m already enrolled in, the other subjects are now on different years to the photography one. What the interviewer will try to do for me is try to allow me to join the group that is in the same year as I am but for me to do the work of the new year group. Since most of the work is individualistic this should be ok, fair enough, I will miss out on a few team activities but I could probably join in with the others in the same time frame group as me anyway, the real difference will be that I’ll know less than the others in terms of technical skills and knowledge of photographers. Joining the second year group may even be an advantage.

If the tutor uses Moodle, you could sign yourself onto that and look up last year’s notes to get a general breadth of knowledge before you start.
