Over and Done

Well, there’s another Christmas over and done with and the New Year starts in less than a week. How has everything been? I know I’ve made a ‘Featured Posts‘ post and resisted an ‘Events Of 2009′ post but I do tend to be the sort of look forward rather than back, although I’m sure looking around here there are times when I’ve wallowed in retrospectives.

Making a summary of how the year has gone and then comparing it to other years is also something I’m not very good at. In May for instance I might have said that this year so far had been one of needing to escape, escape from the life I’ve known for far too long and was perhaps sinking back into with a few exceptions, notably a new friendship that throughout the summer helped me to change my views about myself.

Moving through to getting back to college in September I would probably have said nothing at all about how the year was going because I really was a bit far in my own little world to recognise anything of value. Yes I think the college work suffered and I’m now only just moving out of that phase, a phase where I couldn’t see the things I was doing properly and failing to recognise or rather trying to blur lines for the sake of my ego.

Now that things are a little clearer for me, I’ve made a decision about University, course as well as institution, I’ll be starting on sorting the organisational parts that have been neglected. Preparing for exams, a couple of which are in January and although the one’s in June will be of high academic value I’m still going to make an effort to high the higher mark.

So, before going back to college I’m going through folders and papers to arrange and understand them better, I know where I need to improve so I should just be getting on with that too. To compare this year to others? I think this year has been more about bring things to a narrow groove so that the navigation through the past into the future has been a smoother transition, but as with anything that requires timing, mine might not fit squarely in line with one year ending and another beginning.

Moving on then to essays that are due in after the holidays I’ve been looking around for resources and inspiration. The Comms and culture essay is going to be the easier of the two for me since that is now the direction I’m heading in terms of degree but I still need to stay focused on the English Literature work, the exam in particular, because in this unit there will be no taking books into the exam. I need to have the quotes in mind before the exam day.

Other things include browsing social media and other websites with similar interests, marketing and views, I’ve added more links into the directory but I really enjoyed reading from a student about the pros and cons of social media and searching for new ways to communicate.
