Communication and Culture Coursework
What I need to do for the Communication and Culture coursework is out and I’m really looking forward to it, so much so that I’ve 
already been looking at some research! There are three topics, body Modification, Celebrity and Cinema Going. Needless to say I’ve chosen Cinema Going. I have looked at the others and did like a title in the Celebrity section but what I’ve gone for is certainly in keeping with the area I want to study at degree level.
The coursework is made up of 2 sections.
Section A : The case study
Section B : Creative work
Section A
- Theoretical approach with critical analysis
- Compare and contrast is thought to be a good approach
- 2000 word written piece
- Formal and academic
- Not necessarily a traditional essay but can be
- Audience for this is teachers / examiners
- Theory should be embedded in the work
- Two theories is thought to be a good start
- Reference to key concepts
Section B
- This will come out of the case study
- Must not be a rehash of the case study
- Could be an informed/ironic/personal viewpoint
- Audience is communication and culture peer group
- A digitised multi-media presentation
- About 10 minutes of active consumption
- Should have something personal to say
Topics
- AQA set three topics
- The process is Topic — Title — Issue — Angle (with the last part, angle, being the personal view)
I’ve chosen:
- Topic – Cinema Going
- Title – Title 2
- Issue – Movie palaces or multiplexes
Picture palace or flea-pit. Explore the meanings overtly and covertly communicated by spaces in which we watch films.
