I havent done much surfing this week, I’m not catching the waves around the web but have watched Click with an interesting story about research into smart cards. It seems that a professor and his colleagues at the Radboud University in Holland have ‘hacked’ a security measure from these cards and published the result, which they won a court case to do, to show the vulnerabilities of the system. My first thought about this was that it might set a precedent for others to go around trying to un-encrypt information in a manner that is legally justifiable providing they can show good intent? I don’t know much on the subject but as a user of such cards I think it important to know that my information is safe. I have considered this could have been done myself and I suppose it’s only a matter of time for it to happen and better that it’s done academically, perhaps the best that can be done is to be one step ahead?
I have my drunk friend coming over later to stay the week so I’ll probably not have much time to add any more over the weekend but I am looking forward to going to the pub, perhaps this time though we can find a nice proper pub for conversation and drinks instead of shouting and loud music (and getting thrown out).
One of the sites I have been looking through is The JunkBox and although interesting I cant quite work it out, maybe I shouldn’t? It’s quite random and not posted on everyday but I hope to see more. It looks like it’s only recently been started too but that might be because of the authors writings in other places. Look down the blogroll for other sites.
